Beach Party Open-Mic Night

On June 19, 2013 the McCarl Gallery hosted a Beach Party Open-Mic Night to celebrate summer along with some great music. We had a great crowd attend, including Saint Vincent Students and community members. Check out the photos below for a re-cap of the night!

Andrew Razanauskas was our MC for the night. He told some great jokes and even did a surprise performance of “Thrift Shop.” The night wouldn’t have been the same without him. He requested that everyone follow him on twitter @irRAZistible so that he feels like he has friends…Thanks Raz for being an awesome MC!

Well, it looks like later in the night Raz found some friends. We were really happy for him.

Davina Hefflin put on a heart-felt  performance of poetry that the audience loved.. thanks Davina for coming out!

Brett Pippens headlined the event with original poetry and a mixed-track at the end of the night. Check out an excerpt from his poetry below:

“And then after nights with a dead-mind; identifying myself in the queue of half-awake student zombies waiting to hand in an assignment, maybe that’s why they call it a deadline. And then after three years of mental suppression and frustration, my proud mother didn’t even turn up to my graduation.

Nubia stole the show when she sang “The Circle of Life.”

The crowd had a great time watching the performers and clapping along. This was our most lively audience to date!

At the beginning of the evening, Allyson and Brett performed “Airplanes.”

“Backstage” with the famous Brett Pippens.

Aaron “The Uke Slinger” Jones from Latrobe performed four songs that the crowd loved. Aaron not only performs around the area, but he also just came back from playing in Tennessee this summer. We were thrilled to have him at our event.  Look out for him at the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage festival in July.  For more of his music and info on shows check out his  facebook page here: The Uke Slinger. Thanks Aaron for coming out!

Zac “from allover” played a few covers on his acoustic guitar as well as an original song he wrote about a girl on a beach. We do not know where Zac is from or how he found us,  he would not say…but if you have any information, please let us know.

Overall, it was a great night filled with music, food, fun and great company. Thanks to all the performers for coming out and everyone who came to watch.  Special thanks to Raz for MC, Brett for headlining, Aaron for the sound system, Josh for event planning and acting as the DJ. We can’t wait to see you at our next music event!
